When Your Child is a Bully

It’s frustrating to learn that your child is being bullied at school. But what if you find out that your child is the bully?

The worst thing we can do when a problem like this arises is to look the other way. This type of behaviour doesn’t go away on its own.

Talk to your child about what it is that makes them want to bully others. Explain to them just how damaging their behaviour is to other kids, and let them know that it will no longer be tolerated. Then set clear consequences for their actions. And back up your words with action.

Keep an eye on them when they’re around other kids, even if you have to chaperone them on the playground. And make sure their teachers know about your zero-tolerance policy when it comes to your child’s bullying.

This is one childhood problem that needs to be addressed head-on.
