Disagreement is inevitable—especially in a marriage. But there are right and wrong ways to argue.
Begin by making sure that you’re actually having a disagreement, not just a misunderstanding. Always give your mate the benefit of the doubt before assuming the worst. A flat tyre is a good excuse for being late to dinner, so make sure you have all the facts before making accusations.
And be aware that sometimes you may be wrong on an issue. Be open-minded before making your mind up.
Try to remain calm, and refrain from pointing fingers. Few arguments are ever solved through anger or blame. The only fruitful discussion is a give-and-take one.
And finally, don’t dredge up past offences. Stay focused on the issue at hand until you come to a fair and reasonable solution.
