Financial Responsibility

Kids are quick to pick up on their parents’ attitude toward money. That’s why it’s so important to set a healthy example when it comes to spending.

Since you know your kids are watching how you deal with money, why not bring them into the budgeting process? Talk to them about finances, and concepts of good stewardship, like saving and then living on what’s left over. Show them how you sit down once a month and pay the bills. You don’t have to share every detail; just enough to let them know that money really doesn’t grow on trees.

This is a great way to teach kids why it’s important to set clear spending limits—and why they can’t always have the latest "thing".

And don’t be afraid to admit the past mistakes you’ve made. They’ll appreciate your honesty. Better yet, they may even learn from it!
