How can I help?

Starting Points aims to give a sense of hope and excitement to your role as parents. Developed by Focus on the Family® Australia, this informative program is designed to support parents and caregivers in providing for the best possible outcomes in their children. The facilitator driven program uses a DVD as part of the presentation. This springboards into discussion and activities for a delightfully interactive approach. There has never been a time when the challenge of parenting has been greater and this program is designed to help parents focus on a good and positive family life by equipping them with effective skills for caring for children in their early years.

Over the past three years, Focus has watched with excitement the development of Starting Points – a program for parents of 0-4 yr olds developed here in Australia. Swinburne University of Technology has been conducting an on-going evaluation process. All data has now been collected, collated, entered, and analysed with the following official conclusion:

“The course participants rated themselves as more confident immediately following the course and on the delayed post-test, on all items, and across the three subscales of Cognitive, Behavioural and Emotive Confidence.

In comparison with the control group, the parents receiving the intervention improved significantly, while the control group stayed the same or lapsed slightly

This is a strong result, indicating a consistent and sustainable change in confidence as a result of the intervention.”
